WE ARE NOT ASKING YOU TO FUND AN IDEA
We are asking you to help sustain something that is already working. GRAPA has transformed neglected public land into a productive garden, community gathering space and visible neighbourhood asset.
Creating the garden was only the beginning. It must be maintained, planted, developed, cared for, staffed, equipped, kept productive, safe and welcoming—and supported through ongoing community activity.
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT HELPS SUSTAIN
• Seeds, seedlings, compost and growing materials
• Water, tools, equipment and maintenance
• Garden wages and dignified employment
• Safety, administration and responsible governance
• Community markets, outreach and volunteer activity
WAYS TO SUPPORT GRAPA
Tell us how you’d like to help
Make a once-off donation — Every contribution helps meet an immediate need.
Become a monthly supporter — Choose the R55 Community Supporter or R100 Garden Patron contribution.
Sponsor a priority — Businesses and funders can support equipment, infrastructure, employment, garden operations or a specific project.
Give in kind — Suitable tools, materials, professional services and other practical support can reduce operating costs.
A NOTE ABOUT TAX DEDUCTIBILITY
GRAPA has not yet received SARS approval as a Public Benefit Organisation under Section 30 and does not hold Section 18A approval. Contributions are not automatically tax-deductible, and GRAPA cannot issue Section 18A receipts unless written SARS approval is obtained.

PRECINCT INVESTMENT: GOOD FOR COMMUNITY. GOOD FOR BUSINESS.
Local businesses are part of the same precinct. They benefit when surrounding public space is clean, green, cared for, active and welcoming. GRAPA’s work contributes to visual appeal, environmental quality, local activity and the reputation of the area.
Supporting GRAPA is not simply supporting a garden. It is an investment in the quality and sustainability of the surrounding community and precinct.
Businesses can participate through recurring sponsorship, project sponsorship, once-off donations, materials and equipment, professional services, expertise, event support and other suitable in-kind contributions.
A stronger precinct is good for business. To discuss a precinct partnership, contact info@grapa.org.za.
GRAPA Director Kerneels Brümmer turned an open-water challenge into practical community support. For the campaign described on GivenGain, he committed to swimming five miles across five Cape Town locations on 18 April, with a R50,000 fundraising goal.
By the time the campaign closed on 30 April 2026, R20,900 had been raised for GRAPA. The appeal focused on the practical needs that keep the garden thriving—plants, seeds, compost, water and other essentials.
Beautiful Five is an annual GRAPA fundraising initiative and a vivid example of how individual effort can sustain something that benefits an entire community.
One person’s challenge can help keep food growing, work opportunities open and public space active.
